Travel purposes recorded in this source

  • Transit

Prepare and verify

  1. Check whether your passport, journey and transit arrangements fall within the official authorisation scheme.
  2. Apply through the official channel when required and confirm the decision, passport link and validity before travelling.

Your next checks

  1. Write down the passport you will use and its type, your country of residence and your planned activities. Residence and interface language do not replace passport nationality.
  2. List arrival and departure dates, transit stops and entry points. Check each leg separately, including whether you pass immigration during transit.
  3. Open the official instructions for that profile. Record the required documents, submission window, fees and processing guidance; mark anything the source does not confirm as unresolved.
  4. If a condition is unclear, contact the competent authority with your passport country, residence, purpose and dates. Recheck before departure and after a passport or itinerary change.
What else should I know?

An authorisation does not guarantee boarding or entry. A new passport or changed circumstances may require a new application; check the scheme's rules.

Automatic translation. The official authority's source takes precedence.

Who can apply

A participating nationality and an electronic passport are required, along with all VWP conditions. Certain travel histories, dual nationalities or refusals may require a visa.

Prepare and verify

  1. Check the VWP conditions and exclusions on the official website.
  2. Submit the ESTA application using the passport you will travel with and check its status before departure.
  • Presence in Cuba since January 12, 2021, or in North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen since March 1, 2011: exclusion from the VWP, subject to limited diplomatic or military exceptions.
  • Dual Cuban, North Korean, Iranian, Iraqi, Sudanese or Syrian nationality: exclusion from the VWP. Also check previous refusals, the carrier and the other program conditions.
  • An ICAO-compliant electronic passport and an approved ESTA remain mandatory: a nationality match is not enough. United Kingdom: unrestricted permanent right of residence required; Taiwan: check the document requirements. These two cases remain outside automatic matching.
  • ESTA does not guarantee admission. The VWP does not permit employment or settlement.
